WWE News: The Great Khali Teases WWE Return — Possible ‘WrestleMania’ Appearance?

Less than a year after leaving the WWE upon his contract expiring, former World Heavyweight champion The Great Khali is teasing a return to the company, according to the Tribune News Service in India (via LordsOfPain ).

The 7-foot, 1-inch, 347 pound Indian behemoth left the WWE this past October when his contract expired. His departure was the end of a eight-year stint with the company. Since leaving the federation and returning to his native India, the 42-year-old Khali embarked on several new ventures, including assisting the next generation of Indian grapplers.

A report from the Hindustan Times suggested that Khali would open a wrestling school. He claimed that he wanted to help the youth make a career in professional wrestling while keeping them on the right path.

“I am in the field of wrestling for the past 14 years … now I want to do something for those who wanted to make their career in wrestling. It is very unfortunate that youth of the country is involved in drug addiction.”

It’s ironic that a performer who was considered by many to be one of the worst in company for so many years is going to teach others the craft. But in the story, Khali informed people that his health is good and that a return to WWE is possible.

Khali noted that he would be returning to WrestleMania and will defeat The Undertaker at some point.

There could be truth to Khali and his claim. With the Andre The Giant Battle Royal taking place at WrestleMania once again, a Khali appearance in the match makes sense. Despite his limited ability, he is still a large body who helps a lesser known competitor look strong if they were to eliminate him.

This is much like the winner of last years battle royal, Cesaro. Prior to eliminating Big Show to win the mammoth-sized trophy, the Swiss Superman eliminated The Great Khali earlier in the match. Therefore, a repeat of that scenario with a different competitor this year makes sense.

However, Khali’s intention of defeating The Undertaker will not happen. The Deadman is in the last stages of his career and might be wrestling in the last match of his career this year at WrestleMania 31. Therefore, putting him in the ring with a nearly immobile man is a recipe for disaster. The comment was likely just for the audience he was speaking with to appease them momentarily.

Despite his aforementioned limited ability, age, and health issues, Khali is still a huge name that carries value, especially in the Indian market. The WWE love exposure in different markets and the Punjabi Playboy certainly helped them with that specific market. Therefore, if he does return to the squared circle of WWE, it’ll likely be more for the E rather than the second W in WWE.
