In WWE news, ex-wrestler Pat Patterson revealed on Legends’ House that he is gay, and has been so for the past 50 years.
Even though it has been widely known, or at the very least suspected by most in the world of WWE, that Patterson is gay, it was never officially brought to light, making his announcement on Thursday regarding his sexual orientation an emotional one for him, and many others.
The basis for his “coming out of the closet,” which he had been “in” for the best part of half a century, was that, in his words, he didn’t want to be a “phony” anymore. And why should he? In this day and age it is perfectly acceptable to be homosexual and to be open about it.
The fact that Legends’ House was filmed back in 2012 means that Pat Patterson actually made the announcement over a year ago, but as it was aired only last Thursday it didn’t become public news until then.
And while it may be good for Patterson himself to get that 50 year “burden” off his shoulders it has little bearing in his independent achievements within the WWE .
As well as the fact he is the WWE ‘s first ever Intercontinental Champion, he is also one of Vince McMahon’s most trusted counterparts.
Today, it had become more widely acceptable for wrestlers in the WWE to “come out” as gay, even though the sport appears to be a really macho one.
For example, back in the late summer of 2013, Darren Young announced he was gay – and he probably isn’t the only one.
Most people who have followed WWE since the 60’s and 70’s won’t much care what Pat Patterson’s sexual preferences are as, WWE -wise, he was one of the sport’s unrivaled and biggest stars and achieved a great deal during his career.
