WWE News: Mick Foley Reveals Backstage Reaction To Sasha Banks’ Women’s Title Win

There are moments that live on in WWE fame that will never be forgotten. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is lucky enough to have hosted numerous moments that WWE fans remember. The biggest moment was the first one, when Mick Foley was thrown off the top of the cell by the Undertaker and landed on the floor. When Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross reacted to his historic fall, those were hardly words written on a script. It was a real reaction.
Another big one was the Royal Rumble in 2014. It is regarded as one of the worst Royal Rumble events of all-time because of what took place in the months prior to it. CM Punk was on his last breath in the WWE and the Rumble was his last chance to change the minds of WWE management. On the other side of the coin, Daniel Bryan was at the climax of his popularity and when he didn’t come out at No. 30 in the Rumble match, the Pittsburgh crowd created a moment that fans won’t forget.
Apparently, the reaction was quite similar backstage, as well. According to Mick Foley, the backstage reaction of Sasha Banks’ Women’s title win was pure elation.
“There was this great moment where as soon as Sasha won, Big E was in the dressing room and said ‘let’s go’. The 3 New Day members literally ran out of the dressing room. It was important for people backstage to share that moment with her. It was bigger than anything I had ever seen. It was really powerful to see, which is why I’ve been working on this article for 4 days. I want to get it right. I want people to be moved by it the way I was.”
For those that haven’t seen the story Mick Foley wrote on his Facebook page, you can see the entire thing there. Here is a brief portion of Foley’s post on Facebook about Banks’ victory on Monday Night Raw.
“And then Sasha hits the ropes and takes flight, diving through the ropes…and a collective gasp of horror fills the dressing room as Sasha lands in truly disturbing fashion – her upper torso hitting the concrete with such force that her body folds up like an accordion, leaving her motionless on the floor. […] As she lies there, the landing is shown in slow-motion three times – each one accompanied by another horrific gasp from the dressing room. Some of us shield our eyes. Chris Jericho, yells out before the final replay, ‘please don’t show it again!’ […] Xavier Woods begins talking softly to the TV screen : ‘come on Sasha, get up…get up Sasha.'”
The rest of the story by Foley is simply amazing. There is a reason why Foley is a professional writer and award-winning author. Even after all that has happened since, the angle surrounding the WWE Women’s championship did change near WrestleMania 32 time. In a previous report by the Inquisitr, the plans changed when Becky Lynch began to get cheers.
Either way, most WWE fans are glad the way it happened the way it did. Sasha Banks became a part of WWE history.
Dave Meltzer of the WON said that was supposed to be the SummerSlam match. It could have main evented the pay-per-view. The women deserve it and perhaps that will happen one day. Banks already headlined an NXT Takeover event. Soon, she will main event a WWE pay-per-view, as well.
