WWE News: Major Speculation On Roman Reigns Passing CM Punk On Longest-WWE Title Reign List?

From the archive: published Sep 15, 2015, 11 years ago. Details may have changed since.

There are still WWE fans who want to see CM Punk back with the company. Anyone can say that he will return, but not for a long time. That’s a fair justification, especially after men like the Ultimate Warrior and Bret Hart also returned to the company after a strenuous relationship. For those that want to CM Punk in a WWE ring, a piece of news took place yesterday that will only add to the dissonance.

Earlier this year, WWE sued CM Punk and Colt Cabana over defamation of their product. Without getting into too much detail, Punk called the WWE medical team, specifically Dr. Chris Amann, incompetent. He didn’t treat a staph infection on Punk, which he had removed after his tenure with the WWE.

WWE released a statement yesterday on the update to this lawsuit.

“Phil Brooks’ latest claim that WWE directed Dr. Amann to file a lawsuit against Brooks is categorically false. Dr. Amann made the decision to file suit in order to protect his professional reputation. WWE conducted its own investigation into this matter and found no evidence of wrongdoing by Dr. Amann, and thus continues to support Dr. Amann and the staff that runs our world-class medical program.”

The WWE is simply defending their doctor, which is the bright move in this case. However, that deals with Punk off-screen. They are beginning to remove any affiliation with him on WWE TV as well. It began last night, when Nikki Bella broke AJ Lee’s reign as longest-Divas champion. Was it for the sole reason to remove Punk’s wife from the history books? That will always be in the picture.

Unfortunately for Punk, he’s a historic-WWE champion. Just like how there was speculation that Bella was going to break Lee’s record just to erase Lee, Punk’s championship reign may also be in jeopardy. According to Bryan Alvarez and Ringside News, there might be plans in place to insert Roman Reigns and have him hold the WWE championship longer than Punk.

“Alvarez mentions that ever since Punk left the company, and the fact that he’s on bad terms with the organization, WWE doesn’t want to recognize him on television as the longest reigning WWE Champion.”

If Roman Reigns gets a WWE championship, which he will, the chances of him surpassing CM Punk are great. After what Punk did to the company, which was make them money and then degrade them, the WWE will continue to try and get rid of Punk’s existence altogether. He’s mentioned on social media, but never on WWE TV. There’s a chance his name could be erased from the record books as well.
