WWE News: CM Punk Talks WWE Living In A Bubble, Says They’re Not In Touch With What’s Going On Outside Of Their World

Former WWE superstar CM Punk has been very outspoken about WWE since his departure from the company in 2014, and one of the things that Punk continues to reiterate is that WWE isn’t in touch with what’s going on outside of their world, and that they are living in a bubble.
CM Punk recently spoke with Red Eye Chicago about a number of different things, but most notably he talked about WWE being stuck in their own bubble, saying that WWE is “ten years behind the curve on everything.” Punk pointed to WWE’s fascination with Ronda Rousey as an example of them being behind the curve, because when Punk was with the company, some WWE executives — Vince McMahon mainly — criticized the UFC for letting women fight.
“Everybody in WWE whether they admit it or not are big fans of the UFC. Like everything else, they are 10 years behind the curve on everything, but they are slowly warming up to MMA. Now it’s all Ronda Rousey. But a couple of years ago when I mentioned her they told me the sport was despicable. Everything they are doing now is something I told them five years ago. They live in a bubble. When you are on the road this much, you are “all in” and nothing else matters; I lived in a bubble.”
“They built this empire and they are the best at what they do. But they still have no f***ing idea what goes on outside their bubble.”
Back in November, CM Punk appeared on Colt Cabana’s podcast, and talked about the time that he wanted to walk UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen to the octagon in his hometown of Chicago. Punk said that while UFC president Dana White was all for it, Vince McMahon wasn’t, and he nixed the idea, saying that the sport was “barbaric,” and that “someone was going to die” inside the octagon.
Since Punk’s departure from WWE, it seems like they’re doing everything that Punk suggested that they do while he was still in the company. For example, Punk was constantly trying to get WWE to change their stance on bringing in guys from Ring of Honor and other independent organizations, but, for the most part, they never budged. But now, if you look at guys like Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and many others, it looks like they’ve finally changed their stance on it, which Punk revealed that he was happy about in an interview last month.
