WWE News: Alberto Del Rio Dealing With Back Injury, Is Brock Lesnar At Fault?

It’s been said time and time again, but it appears that the WWE can’t get away from injuries, not even for a few weeks. Here’s an updated list of WWE injuries: John Cena, Cesaro, Tyson Kidd, Seth Rollins, Sting, Natalya, Sheamus, Naomi, Randy Orton, Sami Zayn, Hideo Itami, Dana Brooke, Wade Barrett, Daniel Bryan, Sasha Banks and Paige. Since that injury list nearly hit an all-time high, Natalya, Paige and Banks returned to action in the last couple weeks.
Notice that Sheamus is on the list. On his birthday, he tweeted a picture of himself with a cast on his arm. It’s unclear as to what he injured on his left limb, but Sheamus will sport a cast for the near future. Bleacher Report and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter have an update on Sheamus’ situation.
“We’ve confirmed that the injury is legitimate, but we don’t have much in the way of details other than he has tendonitis in the arm. He isn’t expected to be out of the ring for too long, but the timing of when he’ll be able to wrestle again has not been determined.
“As of today, the feeling is that he will likely remain on television in storylines but won’t be working matches, similar to the role Wade Barrett has been doing in the League of Nations in recent weeks.”
This will mean that Rusev is the only healthy member of the League of Nations. If Sheamus and Barrett can’t wrestle, then the former-United States champion and Alberto Del Rio will carry the load. That was the idea until the following report went public.
“The injury came from taking one of Brock Lesnar ‘s vertical suplexes at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view in the 30-man main event, according to F4Wonline.com.
“Del Rio is set to be reevaluated at Monday’s RAW from Birmingham, Alabama, and they should have a better idea of his status after that. As noted, Del Rio vs. WWE United States Champion Kalisto is expected for the Fastlane pay-per-view on February 21st.”
Should Lesnar be at fault for Del Rio’s injury? Given the Beast Incarnate’s history in the ring, he’s one of the safest and most-skilled wrestlers in the WWE. If there’s anybody who got hurt while wrestling Lesnar, it was only by an accident or a freak accident. He’s just as safe as CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Dean Malenko were. Even though Lesnar is a powerful wrestler, that doesn’t take away from his technical prowess.
Come April, most of WWE’s injury problems will go away. Aside from Rollins and Cena, nobody is expected to be out longer than that. Sting can’t really be in the conversation. Daniel Bryan has already been cleared by four other doctors. Rollins and Cena simply suffered gruesome injuries at the worst time. 2015 will most-likely be known historically as the “Year of the Injury.”
The main reason why wrestlers are getting hurt more often is likely due to the intense move set they are using. In the Attitude Era, they weren’t doing what guys like Rollins, Bryan, Kalisto and others are currently doing. It was a safer form of pro wrestling. The only way to cut injuries in the WWE is to be safer in the ring.
