In a recent untelevised matchup, The Phenomenal AJ Styles defeated WWE Champion Jinder Mahal. The WWE SmackDown Live superstars were on hand once again for a live event as WWE Raw was taking place on Monday night. The main event match featured “The Modern Day Maharaja” in the ring against the man considered to be his next competitor after Survivor Series 2017 , AJ Styles. These two superstars clashed along with a variety of other stars who appear on the “blue brand” regularly.

According to Sportskeeda , the latest WWE event at Raleigh, North Carolina also featured Baron Corbin defending his title against Sin Cara, as well as Bobby Roode against Dolph Ziggler and Sin Cara taking on Rusev. However, it was the main event that is raising interest ahead of a possible WWE Championship program involving AJ Styles and Jinder Mahal. Could this latest showdown be foreshadowing an eventual title reign for which AJ Styles seems destined?

In their latest bout, it was said that Mahal still looked lackluster during his ring work, but then again, he was going against one of the best in the business today. Styles had to contend with The Singh Brothers on the outside and managed to fight them off. In the end, Styles was able to hit the Phenomenal Forearm on Mahal to get the win via pinfall. A fan tweeted a video of Styles hitting the big move to collect his clean victory. Unfortunately, the WWE Championship wasn’t on the line in this particular matchup, and it would be surprising if Styles won it off of television or not at a pay-per-view.

With that said, Styles will probably soon be taking on Jinder for the championship. The idea was teased on a recent episode of SmackDown Live . While Jinder is in a non-championship match against Brock Lesnar at the WWE Survivor Series, and Styles will probably be on Team SmackDown , the two are destined to meet at a future pay-per-view. That could be the WWE Clash of Champions 2017 event scheduled for December 17th in Boston, Massachusetts. There are no matches scheduled yet for this PPV, but one would have to think Styles could headline it with Mahal.

With that in mind, there are betting odds that currently give the top favorites to dethrone Jinder Mahal as WWE Champion. As WWE Leaks reported recently, Styles is a co-favorite with John Cena on that list, as both superstars currently have 4 to 5 odds to win the championship next.
