Trade group CTIA have released a new survey that shows wireless devices now outnumbering people in the United States.
The new estimate comes with the realization that more customers are purchasing mobile phones, smartphones and tablets then they have in the past as an industry shift moves toward those type of devices.
According to the survey there are now 327.6 million wireless devices compared to 315 million people.
The study also reveals that 15.2 million are wireless network-connected tablets and laptops, up 17% from the year prior. Because of that number wireless network data traffic is also up for the first six months of 2011 by 111% (341.2 billion megabytes).
The survey found that in an “average” home of 2.6 people there are now 24 gadgets to be found (not necessarily wireless), that number is from 15 years ago when the same number of people in a single household used 12 devices.
The study also found that in the average home at least one device is a Smartphone, while several smartphone and tablet devices are also found in many residence.
