Actor Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer, Chad Smith admit that it is uncanny how much they resemble each other. Freakish, almost. Smith recalls when he first met Ferrell at a party, Ferrell acknowledged how much they look alike — looked him up and down — then said to Smith, “You are very handsome,” as reported by RollingStone . The two hit it off from the very start, but a rivalry also ensued. Sounds like competitive brothers.
The most recent challenge between Will Ferrell and Chad Smith was a drum-off. The battle of the drums took place on The Tonight Show where they raised $300,000 for two charities ( Cancer for College and Little Kids Rock ) in the process of competing as reported by Jambands . The ultimate winner of the dueling drummers was Will Ferrell who will not be outdone tells RollingStone, “I once caught a marlin while I was drumming,” Ferrell said. “We once had a drum-off on the deck of a boat. And I snagged a marlin right out of the air.”
That remains to be seen, however, now that the little drummer boy twins have finished their rivalry, they are ready to take it to the next level. Ferrell and Smith have extended the drum-off challenge to their third look-a-like (Yes, they unbelievably have a third person that looks like them), Metallica’s drummer, Lars Ulrich. Ferrell tells Spin , “Lars gets pissed because he gets mistaken for both me and Chad Smith. He can settle that score now, too.”
What was Lars Ulrich’s response to the drum challenge extended to him from Will Ferrell and Chad Smith? He tells Spin ,”I’m sure that with a bit of practice, I could give Chad a run for his money. But Will? That’s a whole different story…That said, I’m definitely up for the challenge…Bring it on!!”
No announcement has been made as to when or where this next drum-off will take place, but rest assured that Will Ferrell and Chad Smith will not let this slide by. We will be waiting with great anticipation.
