But United currently sits just one point atop Manchester City in the table and a loss probably consigns the Sky Blues to fourth place, which of course carries Championship League qualification, but requires the team to play a two-leg playoff to qualify for the group stage.

A loss would also cause some nerves in the Manchester City camp, because a win by Liverpool over Newcastle on Monday would allow the Reds to close within just four points of the coveted fourth-place position with six games remaining.

On the city side, Vincent Kompany is also bothered by a hamstring pull and will likely miss Sunday’s derby showdown. Striker Wilfred Bony is out with a knee injury, as is defender Dedryck Boyata.
But City’s Sergio Aguero has put the ball in the net four times in his previous three Barclays Premier League Manchester United contests, while United’s star striker Wayne Rooney has scored eight goals against City — but only three on his home Old Trafford pitch.
