Though we haven’t got an official premiere date for the new season as of yet, Vikings Season 5 spoilers are starting to come out of the woodwork. And the latest spoilers, of course, all but confirm that a major character will die this season. So, which character will be meeting the gods in Valhalla this season?

One of the biggest Vikings Season 5 spoilers suggest that this is the season that Ragnar Lothbrok — played expertly by Travis Fimmel — will meet his maker. Now, anyone who knows their Viking history, of course, knows that Ragnar’s death shouldn’t be a spoiler at all — at the end of the story, he dies (he’s killed, in fact, by King Aelle) — but the question becomes when, not if, he will die.
Either way, it looks like this is the last season that Travis Fimmel will be part of the Vikings cast, as Variety has confirmed he’s just signed on to Finding Steve McQueen, a heist movie co-starring Kate Bosworth and Forest Whitaker. This film is just the first of many films that Travis has signed on for, and after the blockbuster success of last summer’s Warcraft (which brought in over $400 million in the domestic box office), it seems as though Travis is on his way to becoming a well-deserved Hollywood superstar. Of course, we’ll miss him on Vikings, but it’s comforting to know he’s on to bigger things!
Lagertha — played by Katheryn Winnick — will be getting a new female lover in Astrid (played by newcomer Josefin Asplund). According to the show’s creator, Michael Hirst — who wrote the story for Entertainment Weekly — Lagertha’s relationship with Astrid has nothing to do with the fact that she’s discovered she’s a lesbian and is, thus, “coming out” (though homosexuality was accepted in Viking culture). Rather, Lagertha’s relationship with Astrid is based on the fact that she feels more comfortable around women, because all the men in her life betrayed her, used her for their own purposes, and otherwise let her down.
Don’t misunderstand, though: Lagertha has every intention of having a face-off with Aslaug for stealing her husband away all those years ago. And given Lagertha’s history on the battlefield, it’s safe to say that she’s going to win this fight, too!
