Apparently, the attention-whoring women who tart their poor preschoolers up for pageants have scored their own television show, a reality-themed horror on The Learning Channel (TLC) entitled Toddlers and Tiaras.
This may not seem too bad, in and of itself- we know pageants occur even involving little children, and some parents see fit to subject their little girls to this form of image scrutiny even so early on. Controversies crop up here and there surrounding sexualization of little kids, and the conditions present at the pageants, and generally what kids may be subject to in preparation for these fiercely competitive events.
Take, for instance, the below video. One of the mothers of a child on Toddlers and Tiaras has brought her five-year-old to a salon for a treatment. Not a facial, or even a makeup application- this mom actually forces the little girl to have her eyebrows waxed. For those who may be unfamiliar with the procedure of waxing, this is when hot wax is applied to hair, allowed to dry, and ripped from the skin to create a hairless surface.
Why is the kid screaming, you ask? Aside from the fact that she knows exactly what she’s in for and is terrified, she has had the service done before- and some of her skin came off with the wax. (This can happen when wax is too hot or in the presence of certain topical Vitamin A treatments- or maybe, you know, on delicate baby-skin.)
