Tim Tebow was scheduled to speak at the First Baptist Church of Dallas in April but the NFL star announced today that he has cancelled his appearance.
Tebow drew criticism after he agreed to speak at the Dallas Mega Church due to the church’s pastor Dr. Robert Jeffress’s controversial views on homosexuality .
Jeffress has been accused of spreading an anti-gay message and many believed that Tebow was “endorsing” Jeffress’ beliefs by speaking at the church.
Tebow wrote on Twitter:
“While I was looking forward to sharing a message of hope and Christ’s unconditional love with the faithful members of the historic First Baptist Church of Dallas in April, due to new information that has been brought to my attention, I have decided to cancel my upcoming appearance. I will continue to use the platform God has blessed me with to bring Faith, Hope and Love to all those needing a brighter day. Thank you for all of your love and support. God Bless!”
Tebow didn’t mention Jeffress specifically but it’s hard to imagine what other “new information” came to light in the last week.
