Thomas Tyner picked a heck of a way to celebrate his 18th birthday. The senior running back for Beaverton Aloha High in Oregon set a state record by rushing for 643 yards and 10 touchdowns in a single game.

Though the stats are still unofficial, Yahoo!’s Prep Rally blog noted that Thomas Tyner’s night appears to by the finest ever. The Oregon recruit smashed the previous state record of 508 yards, and though his performance won’t set national records, his enormous performance came in a game that wasn’t put away until the final minutes.

His team improved to 3-0 with the 84-63 victory against Lakeridge High School, which fought the entire way. The game wasn’t put away until Aloha snagged two fourth quarter interceptions against Lakeridge quarterback Eric Dungey, Oregon Live reported .

Thomas Tyner’s performance is actually the third-best all time for high school football . In 1950 New Jersey high school legend John Giannantonio’s ran for 754 yards, and West Virginia running back Paul McCoy’s ran for 661 yards in 2006.

The Oregonian’s Mike Richman was providing a rundown of the game via Twitter, and posted this incredulous status:

Aloha. Déjà Vu. Tyner scores again on one play. 65yd TD. Last 3plays for Aloha have been 3 60+ yard Tyner TDs. Lkrdge41-35 1:49, 2Q #opreps

Thomas Tyner already had 362 yards and five touchdowns at halftime, Prep Rally noted, but all were important at Lakeridge kept pace with Aloha’s scoring. By the end of the game, Tyner would have 16.9 yards per carry and touchdowns on more than one-quarter of all his runs. Seven of those touchdowns came on runs of 40 yards or more.
