What is so shocking about these two people? The shocking thing is that these aren’t people at all. This is one of hyperrealist sculptor, Ron Mueck’s creations. Mueck creates amazingly life-like sculptures for display.
The London-based sculptor Mueck, formerly worked as a model maker and puppeteer for children’s television and films. Afterwards, he turned to creating fine art sculptures and realistic human sculptures. He started dabbling in hyperrealism in 1996. He uses resin, fiberglass, silicone and other materials to create these pieces of art.
Mueck’s work is special in that he creates realistic pieces, but does so with no regards to proper scaling. Therefore, he will create extremely large or small replicas that captivate the viewer and give of an uneasy and surreal feeling. The detailed sculptures are captivating when viewed up close, as they are many times extremely large or small.
The details that go into the sculptures are remarkable. You can see hair stubble, pores, wrinkles and skin tone differences just as if you were looking at a real person. Check out some of Mueck’s work and see for yourself.
