‘The 100’ Season 4: ‘Death Is Inevitable’ Hints At A Dark And Difficult Path

“Death is inevitable” is one of the lines used in the trailer for the highly anticipated The 100 Season 4. It is a line from the Season 3 finale, when A.L.I.E. tried to get Clarke to stop the end of the A.I. world of peace and forget. One thing that A.L.I.E. knew that nobody else did was that the reactors around the world were breaking down.

The whole trailer hints there will be a dark and difficult path for the 100 characters. Various members have to give pep talks, including Clarke, Abby, and Kane. They are battling each other, as they focus on their next steps to wait out the radiation and create a sustainable world once more.

Now the big question is whether their fight for survival is really going to be worth it. Can anybody fight against the radiation? It is going to make the water in the world undrinkable, which means no hope for survival even after the radiation passes.

One thing that needs to be addressed, though, is how the 100 characters from the sky have already been exposed to radiation. The whole Season 2 storyline was about how the Sky People have built up a tolerance for radiation from the sun due to their proximity to it. The Mountain Men were killing people just to get bone marrow to create a way to be able to live out in the world of radiation. Will the Sky People be resistant to this new radiation, or are they in danger just as much as the Grounders?

However, there is a point that makes 100 fans believe that Season 4 isn’t going to be all doom and gloom. A.L.I.E. points out that 96 percent of the world will be inhabitable. That means there will be 4 percent available somewhere once they wait out the radiation. That is, of course, if they can make it to that 4 percent of the world. We have no idea where that will be, but what are the chances that it will just happen to be in the part of (what once was) America that they are in now? It tends to be convenient like that, right?

As Nerdist shares, there isn’t much hope for our main character, though. Clarke is spotted at the end of the 100 Season 4 trailer covered in boils. We have no idea what these boils are at this point, but A.L.I.E. does mention pre-cancerous lesions. They likely are extremely painful and dangerous if a previous shot of a man covered in the boils is anything to judge.

Of course, that clip in the trailer could be taken completely out of context. There is the possibility that this is a dream. It’s likely that Abby will fear the health and well-being of her daughter and have a dream about the lesions. That could help to set up her journey to find a cure or at least something to soothe the pain and help improve chances of life. The way Clarke turns around, it looks like it could be a dream or prophecy of the future.

And then there are the warring nations and groups battling against each other. It’s clear they haven’t yet learned to work together to prevent extinction and unnecessary suffering. Maybe that is still to come, except that Indra is going to be crucified at one point in Season 4 by the looks of the trailer.

Is there a future for The 100 after Season 4? The trailer suggests that this could be the end of the show. While there has been confirmation either way — unlike The Vampire Diaries and Reign — there are suggestions that the dystopian future show doesn’t have much of a chance after this point. Fans are still angry over Lexa’s death and the future looks dark and bleak.

The 100 Season 4 premieres on February 1, 2017.
