NASA astronaut Terry W. Virts is someone that you really need to be following on Twitter and across the length and breadth of social media. Because, if you’re not, then you’re missing out on a completely unique view of the world.

Virts is currently on board the International Space Station, and on Sunday, May 10th, 2015, he passed over India and saw the truly spectacular sight of a lightning storm exploding over parts of India and Indonesia. Luckily, for the rest of us, he captured what he saw and then decided to share it with the entire world.

He wasn’t done there though, because Virts then showed off an image of Super Typhoon Noul approaching the Philippines too.

Virts has been employed as a NASA astronaut since August 2000, which is when he originally registered for training following an impressive military career.

On November 23, 2014, he set off into space from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, and then docked onto the International Space Station around six hours later.

Since then he has peppered his Twitter feed with scintillating and beautiful images, the most famous of which came on February 28, 2015, when he posted this moving tribute to Leonard Nimoy as the ISS flew over Nimoy’s place of birth, Boston.

But Virts’ feed has been packed with a plethora of other vines, pictures and videos depicting his time above the clouds. And each prove to be just as overwhelmingly poetic and beautiful as the last.
