Tekken Tag Tournament 2 was originally targeted for a “holiday 2012” release on consoles, but Namco Bandai announced on Wednesday that the release has been moved up a bit.
Instead of falling around November, which is already becoming jam-packed with all sorts of heavy hitters, the port of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will instead release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at some point in September.
Rather than being a console port of the original Tekken Tag Tournament 2 arcade release, the console version is based on the recently-released “ Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited ” update, which adds the ability for players to duke it out 1-on-1, or even 2-on-1.
That’s not all of the new features console players will be getting with Tekken Tag Tournament 2 , Namco Bandai says. The console release will also introduce a new “Fight Lab” mode, which aims to get new players up to speed on the basics while also offering some useful training tools for series veterans.
“ Tekken Tag Tournament is one of the most beloved entries in the Tekken series – not just among fans but also for myself and the entire development team, so crafting the sequel has been a labor of love for everyone here,” said Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada. “To truly make this game stand up to the high benchmark set by the original, we have injected some exciting features and modes that will revolutionize the online fighting game community and allow new players to enjoy and master the game – so there will be something for everyone.”
