Country star Taylor Swift has made a huge gesture towards one of her biggest fans. Kevin McGuire is currently receiving treatment at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for his second bout with Leukemia. He and his sister had started a Facebook page called “Taylor Swift Take Kevin McGuire To Prom!” to get Swift to be his date for his prom. The page has more than 90,000 followers.
Swift responded to the invitation with a post of her own on her Facebook wall,
It seems as if Taylor Swift needs a date to the Academy of Country Music Awards! She has formerly invited McGuire to join her and he has accepted the invitation.
McGuire’s Facebook team took to the Social Networking site to tell the world about how awesome t would be for McGuire to accompany Swift to the Awards show.
They wrote on Facebook,
“Taylor got back to us!!!! She is unable to attend Kevin’s prom, although did one better- Invited Kevin to be her date to the Academy of Country Music Awards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so so so so so much! The McGuire family could never show how grateful we are to all of you! We have won in more than one way.. we got Taylor to take Kevin on a date, and we have made so many good friends along the way!”
McGuire was giving an interview where he talked about his battle with cancer and said,
“I had no doubt I would kick its butt the first time, and I did,” McGuire told MyFoxPhilly.com. “Hopefully I’ll be able to continue that this time…”
