Sundance Favorite “Middle Of Nowhere” Gets A Trailer [Video]

Sundance Film Festival favorite Middle of Nowhere released a trailer online, giving a spotlight to the critically-lauded film that would have otherwise been drowned out in the deluge of films premiering at the famous film festival.

As film review website FirstShowing puts it, “There are so many movies at the Sundance Film Festival that it’s nearly impossible to see all of them.” This generally rings quite true, as many terrific independent films come out each year, receive massive critical acclaim, but go generally unnoticed by the general population, unless the film is lucky enough to grab an Oscar nomination.

One such film is Middle of Nowhere , a quiet drama, the type of which rarely sees a wide release these days in the face of summer blockbusters and the yearly outpouring of romantic comedies. The trailer, which sees online release just ahead of the film’s theatrical premiere, gives audiences a sneak peek at breakthrough performances by David Oyelowo, Omari Hardwick, and new-comer Emayatzy Corinealdi.

A bit about the film’s cast and crew (and the film itself) before we debut the trailer: Ava DuVernay won the Best Director Award at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival for Middle of Nowhere . The film itself tells the story of Ruby (played with grace by relative-unknown Emayatzy Corinealdi), a smart med student who finds her dreams set to the wayside when she is forced to put her career on hold after her husband is sent to prison. He is sentenced to a stiff eight-year term on the inside, and Ruby is forced to re-learn her life in the face of personal shame and separation from her spouse. However, through a chance encounter and betrayal, Ruby is forced into new directions on her personal road of self-discovery.

Middle of Nowhere premieres in theaters on October 12th, 2012. See the trailer first here:
