On October 4th, Stew, Heidi Rodewald and Jon Spurney will be bringing ‘Songs From Passing Strange’ to the grand re-opening of Joe’s Pub. The landmark club, one of New York City’s most eclectic music nightspots, has been closed over the summer for renovations.
This ‘intimate’ acosutic set will feature, er, songs from ‘Passing Strange’, the theater production that would eventually become a Spike Lee-directed movie and Tony Award winner for “Best Book of a Musical.”
This is one the hardcore fans won’t want to miss – there will also be songs that were cut from the show, tracks that have never been heard on a New York stage. Here’s a promotional blurb from the Joe’s Pub website:

Joe’s Pub closed on July 1st so it could undergo a fairly major facelift. When it re-opens on October 1st, there’ll be an expanded seating capacity, a revamping of space within the bar’s boundaries to improve audience/performer experiences, enhanced sight lines, and no more standing room. The bathrooms and dressing rooms have also been renovated.
Tickets for ‘Songs From Passing Strange featuring Jon Spurney’ are available now at a very reasonable $30, and there are two showings, at 19.30 and 21.00 respectively. Any New Yorkers hitting this up?
