Steve Austin Podcast On WWE Network Could Be Getting A Lot More Boring

The Steve Austin podcast on the WWE Network has been appointment viewing up to this point on the rare occasion that it actually happens.
Thus far, the Texas Rattlesnake has only had three guests — Vince McMahon, Triple H, and Paul Heyman — but each of the conversations were compelling for the “inside baseball” approach they took to the industry of professional wrestling.
That also happens to be one of the most popular parts of the audio Steve Austin podcast, which airs twice per week in “family-friendly” and “uncensored” versions.
While the WWE doesn’t have any control over what Austin says or talks about on the audio version, they do have some say in the contents of the WWE Network video podcasts, and a new report from Cageside Seats indicates that they’re about to use it.
Big time.
The site notes that “WWE wants Steve Austin to ease back on insider talk on the podcasts he does for the Network, which is why his show with Paul Heyman wasn’t as inside as the shows with Vince McMahon and Triple H.”
This news didn’t sit well with some commenters.
“Honestly, I get it with Vince and Triple H,” wrote one. “They probably don’t wanna dive too deep into what’s going on currently and/or will be going on in the near future. With Heyman, it’s ridiculous. He’s not an ‘inside’ guy anymore and his best stories are going to be inside stuff – from 10, 15, 20 years ago. Without that, what does he talk about? Can only discuss Brock’s quarterly appearances for so long.”
What’s particularly disappointing about this news is that Austin really does have a great mind for the business. Not only was he the biggest selling superstar in the company’s history during his active years, he was also considered a solid in-ring mechanic. His commentary on the state of WWE — which you can find regularly on his audio podcasts — attracts hundreds of questions from listeners each week.
Having that power taken away from him for the WWE Network version of his shows leaves little creative room to maneuver.
What could be the cause of the change? Well, a previous report from the Inquisitr indicates that Vince McMahon may not have been happy with all the Steve Austin vs. Brock Lesnar talk from the Heyman episode.
That report, which stemmed from the Wrestling Observer newsletter, stated the following.
“Vince did not know Heyman and Austin were going to do the bit they did and immediately felt they were creating major interest in a match that was not happening. There was reportedly some sort of discussion between Austin and Vince after the podcast where Vince wanted the story to go away quickly and quietly with Austin addressing it once and then moving on.”
Do you think the Steve Austin podcast will be worth watching on WWE Network if the insider talk is removed? Sound off in the comments section.
