Stephen Colbert’s Super-Pac Raises More Money Than Ron Paul

Politics is taken seriously by some, ignored by others and used to raise of bunch of cash for Stephen Colbert. Comedy Central’s funnyman has managed to raise more money than GOP presidential hopeful Ron Paul’s own supporting Super Pacs in recent months through his Super PAC Americans For A Better Tomorrow.

While the Colbert sponsored Super PAC raised just $44,000 in march it only spent $28,000, mostly on legal fees and internet bills. However the organization is currently sitting on $794,000 cash-on-hand according to official documents the organization filed with the Federal Election Commission in March. That sum makes the Super Pac wealthier than some legitimate political organizations.

To put that amount in perspective Take Endorse Liberty a PAC that supports Ron Paul has just $54,000 in the bank. Originally endorsed with a $1.7 million donation from PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel the Ron Paul supporting Super-Pac managed to take in just $13,000 in March.

That isn’t to say Colbert is leading the pack, the pro-Gingrich PAC Winning Our Future which was spearheaded with a $5 million donation from Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson managed to stay afloat thanks to the billionaires contribution.

In the meantime Priorities USA Action which supports President Obama has $5 million cash on hand while Mitt Romney’s Restore Our Future has $16.5 million to play with come the full court press of the 2012 election season.

I’m sure Stephen Colbert would quickly point out that his Super PAC has no millionaire investors, instead relying on “Super Fun PAC” donations of $99 which gives supporters a wrench, tube sock and a sign that simply reads:
