Steam, the company behind Forsaken World , Champions Online, Valiant Arms and various other online games has announced a new “free games section” for online games.

Among available games are the previously “pay to play” titles Champions Online and Global Agenda.

Players who try out the company’s “Free to Play Game of the Day” will receive exclusive in-game content starting with today’s title Spiral Knights.

To earn a profit from the now free games, Steam allows users to pay for in-game content using the company’s micro-transaction back-end system which was already used effectively for Team Fortress 2.

The company claims that their titles are not simply “throw away” games, but rather full fledged offerings for users to play at will.
