Starbucks and Google have teamed up to offer faster Wi-Fi connections for coffee loving internet users.
While Starbucks customers have long gathered at the coffee chains locations to chat and surf the web, the chai’ns internet has left something to be desired.
When customers weren’t battled to maintain a steady connection, they were most often hit with very slow download and upload speeds.
The faster internet connections provided by Google will serve both companies. On the one hand, Starbucks will be able to keep customers in their stores for longer periods of time; on the other hand, Google will continue to push customers towards more web searches and ultimately Google Adwords ads.
The new more reliable Starbucks connections will roll out within the next 18 months to more than 7,000 locations in the United States.
The first Starbucks stores will begin receiving Google’s help in the next month.
Under the new plan, Google will help Starbucks customers receive up to 10 times faster data speeds.
With faster speeds, Starbucks will be able to more greatly target students and remote business customers who require faster data speeds as they work.
Customers will know when their Google-enabled internet connection is available because they will see a network named Google Starbucks SSID [service set identifier].
Starbucks has had a lot of luck in its embrace of the digital space, and this new upgrade will likely have the same level of success.
