‘Star Wars’ Tickets May Not Be Sold Out For Opening Night

With the current Star Wars mania taking over the world, many fans are bummed out that they don’t have tickets to the “sold out” showings. This is the popular assumption surrounding ticket sales, especially after the internet virtually shut down when fans overloaded the servers to make their purchases. However, “a new hope” may be arising for those who will do anything to get their hands on some tickets for opening night.
In some areas of the country, there are a few tickets available for regular price at your local theater, but those tickets are few and far between. You’ll also likely have a difficult time finding more than a single ticket for those showings. The smaller your city, though, the better chance you have of scoring. It’s still worth a shot to look on ticketing sites like Fandango and MovieTickets. com .
There’s also a hefty market for ticket hawking going on all over eBay and other sites. The average ticket sale is approximately $50, but some are posted for as much as $10,000, as in Danvers, Massachusetts. It seems a little far fetched, but some Star Wars fanatic may have saved up a small fortune for this very occasion.
Be warned: Many of these tickets sold in this form are of questionable legality and scams. It’s important to do your research before purchasing a ticket in this way to avoid a scam or legal trouble.
Hope is not lost for obtaining tickets, but it will certainly be difficult. For many theaters, their opening showings have been sold out since moments after the ticket sales came online. As a result, the box office predictions for opening night have been off the chart. It wouldn’t be surprising if Disney’s newest franchise film broke every sales record in the books.
It’s already achieved one impressive record. The advance ticket sales for Star Wars: The Force Awakens have already hit a record $100 million, and the numbers aren’t all in yet. Disney hasn’t made any official comments yet because they don’t have the full number yet, but we’ll no doubt be hearing much from them in the future. Before the first showing Thursday at 7:00 p.m., advance ticket sales are projected to be as much as $120 million.
This incredible number breaks the previous record of the amount of advance tickets sold. That record was held by The Dark Knight Rises in 2012, with a mere $25 million in advance tickets. This new record is of epic proportions, and, as of now, it’s difficult to imagine a film beating that record.
With 10 years of buildup between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and nearly 40 years of the existence of Star Wars films, there has been an unprecedented amount of hype towards the film.
The premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens couldn’t come quickly enough. Tonight, it will be shown in more than 4,100 theaters in North America. You may still have a chance to get your tickets to the largely sold out film if you hurry.
