Sony announced today that PlayStation Network accounts will soon be changed over to “Sony Entertainment Network” accounts.
It may sound like a major change, but it’s not–Sony says that the switch over to “Sony Entertainment Network” is purely cosmetic, meaning you won’t have to worry about having to change your username and/or password.
So why, then, is Sony changing the name? Here’s what Sony had to say about that in an email sent out to PlayStation Network users:
“This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation Network will be aligned with Sony Entertainment Network,” Sony said in the email.
“This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.”
Existing PlayStation Network accounts will be converted to Sony Entertainment Network accounts on February 8 via a update. This change applies to both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, but PSP PSN accounts will be unaffected, at least for the time being.
