‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Spinoff Show Finally In Development: What’s Known So Far About The New Show?

A Sons of Anarchy spinoff show is officially in the works, a development that will definitely get SOA fans buzzing. The original Kurt Sutter show ended after seven seasons on FX last December, though there has always been talk of creating something new based on the original show. What’s known so far about the new show?

TVLine shares that Kurt Sutter is officially now working on creating a Sons of Anarchy spinoff. Though there has always been talk of doing a series that would be something of a prequel to SOA, focusing on the original nine club members, this next show is heading in a perhaps unexpected direction.

Though little is known at this point about the new show, it seems that the focus will not be on SAMCRO, but on the Mayans. Back when SOA wrapped, Sutter acknowledged that there had been serious conversations about the prequel concept but seemed less keen on the idea of a spinoff in a traditional sense. It seems, however, that things are coming together with the concept of a spinoff after all.

Sutter has still shown an interest in the prequel idea, though. He told E! News earlier this month that it may be all about the timing. As Kurt’s fans know, his big focus right now is on his new show. The Bastard Executioner premieres on FX this fall and naturally that has been the priority in terms of Sutter’s work.

The SOA creator says that he wanted to work on something that was not related to Sons of Anarchy for a bit, and The Bastard Executioner most definitely will have a different feel. He’s always said that he felt there needed to be a couple of years away from SOA before moving ahead with a prequel or anything else along those lines.

Entertainment Weekly confirms that the Sons of Anarchy spinoff is in the works and will focus on the Mayans. Kurt Sutter will be the executive producer on the new show, though he will be looking for a showrunner to handle the day-to-day components as he continues to focus on The Bastard Executioner.

As for how this Sons of Anarchy spinoff will take shape, when it will be ready and what that means for a “First 9” prequel show, fans will have to hang tight and be patient for a bit. What do you think of the concept as it’s laid out so far?
