El Debarge, the singer most famous for 80s hit “Rhythm of the Night,” is canceling his “long awaited” tour, billed as a comeback, in order to check into rehab for drug addictions.
Debarge. 49, reportedly has been struggling with addictions to crack and heroin since his heyday two decades ago. In a statement, he said:
“I hate to disappoint my fans but it is necessary for me to take the time to work on me so that I may continue to share my music and my story with everyone.”
Debarge’s most recent album, his first in 16 years, was released late last year. He performed at the BET awards, and was nominated for two Grammys this year. His struggles with drugs have interfered with hopes of a career rebound, and the singer was arrested on drug possession charges three times in recent years. He served time in prison between 2008 and 2009 for drug-related charges.
