Sheila MacRae has has died at 93, leaving behind a legacy as a well-respected actress famous for her tole in the 1960s remake of The Honeymooners .
MacRae was an English actress and comedienne who played Alice Kramden on the reboot of the CBS series. MacRae played the long-suffering wife of Ralph Kramden on musical comedy episodes of The Honeymooners featured on The Jackie Gleason Show .
Sheila MacRae also had her own short-lived series in 1971, and made appearances in a number of sitcoms including I Love Lucy , The Man From U.N.C.L.E. , The Love Boat and Murder, She Wrote. Alice was particularly well-known for her role as Madelyn Richmond on General Hospital .
Sheila made her movie debut in the 1950 movie Caged, a film about a women’s prison. She went on to star in other movies including Bikini Beach and How to Stuff a Wild Bikini . She also served as producer on a film, the 1986 project The Perils of P.K .
Beyond her acting work, MacRae was known as an accomplished signer, dancer, and impressionist. She had four children with her husband, actor Gordon MacRae. One of their children, Petticoat Junction star Meredith MacRae, died of brain cancer in 2000, prompting Sheila to take several years away from the spotlight.
Family members said they would remember Sheila for her many accomplishments.
“She lived a good life and she lived a long time,” her granddaughter Allison Mullavey told the New York Daily News .
Sheila MacRae died March 6 at the Lillian Booth Actor’s Home in Englewood, New Jersey. No funeral has been planned, as she was a devout Christian Scientist.
