Yesterday, nominations were announced for this year’s Kids’ Choice Awards. The three artists with the most nominations (three each) are Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, and Justin Bieber, and, because of the trio’s history together, this year’s Kids’ Choice Awards should be even more suspenseful than usual.
The interplay among the three is centered around Selena Gomez.
Gomez and Taylor Swift have been very chummy as of late, as one can discern by taking a look at their Instagram accounts. In the past few months, Gomez and Swift have posted photos documenting their friendship by spending time together clubbing or hiding out in the woods. The two have also been scoped out as workout buddies.
“She’s my best friend,” Gomez said to E! News when asked about Swift.
Selena also expressed her desire to collaborate musically with Taylor.
Selena Gomez also has a strong connection to Justin Bieber, as the two used to be a couple. The two have both had multiple relationships since parting ways, however. Although Bieber still insists Selena is his only true love, Gomez wants to move on and is tired of being ask about the infamous Selena Gomez-Justin Bieber romance (also known as “Jelena”), says the Daily News Service.
The two are far from enemies, though; in fact, it seems they still have affection for each other. A source close to Justin recently told Hollywood Life that Selena Gomez and her ex-flame text at least once a week.
“Selena likes to know where he is,” explained the source.
“Maybe one day when their careers aren’t so busy they will get back together,” the source continued.
Selena’s entry in “Best Collaboration” is “Good For You,” a track by Selena Gomez and featuring A$AP Rocky. Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood,” which features Kendrick Lamar, is also up for the award. And Justin Bieber’s nomination resulted from “Where Are U Now,” featuring Skrillex and Diplo. Other nominees for “Best Collaboration” include Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s “Downtown,” Meghan Trainor’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You,” and Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again.”
As for T-Swift and the Biebs (which would be a great name for a reality TV show), they will go up against each other in the “Favorite Song” category, with “Bad Blood” being the entry from Tay-Tay and “Where Are U Now” from Justin. The two are perhaps the most popular of the Kids’ Choice Awards nominees in terms of sheer popularity, assuming number of Twitter followers is a good indication of such, so it will be exciting to see which one can best the other.
The 2016 Kids’ Choice Awards are to be hosted by country singer Blake Shelton, who, incidentally, will also be contesting Justin Bieber in the “Favorite Male Singer” category.
