In between all the ker-razy Beatlemania occurring today, I’d like to give a big shout-out to Sega’s Dreamcast console, originally released in North America on September 9, 1999. I am all about the anniversary posts around these parts, so suck it up.
Though it lived a relatively short life – Dreamcast production was sadly halted in March 2001 – the cream dream machine lives on in my creaky old heart.
In fact, for my money, it’s the best damn hardware Sega ever produced, so thanks, Dreamcast. Thanks for ruining the first year of my undergraduate degree (I’m looking at you, Virtua Tennis and Crazy Taxi ), but also for helping me understand why RPGs are great (cheers, Skies of Arcadia ), and for introducing me to Rez . A nod to Soul Calibur as well, for still managing to look beautiful, even today.
Has any other console had such a high ratio of great-to-bad games? Not in my book.
