Sean Hayes, who- along with Megan Mullally as Karen- made NBC’s groundbreaking gay sitcom Will & Grace bearable despite the whiny titular characters, is set to return to the network for an unspecified project, network brass has indicated.
At a meeting earlier today of television critics, NBC head Bob Greenblatt acknowledged that the network’s fortunes had slipped since the halcyon days of Seinfeld and Friends , a situation he would like to turn around :
“We want to restore NBC to its leadership position in quality. We’re going to do attention getting shows. Hopefully we will have patience to see those attention getting shows get [their] shot at success.”
Apparently, that strategy includes getting Hayes back on the small screen in a project- whatever it may be- over at NBC. Greenblatt elucidated:
“It’s [early] but we’re honing in on an idea that I’ll let you know more about in the coming weeks.” He adds that they have “an incredible writer/creator” to spearhead the project. “I really think it’s time for him to star in a comedy again.”
Over on Twitter, Hayes gleefully confirmed:
