Scrabble adds new ‘tech’ words to official dictionary

But the real question is, “does this count for Words With Friends ?”

If you’re looking for ways to use a Q without a U, the most recent update to the list of Scrabble words not only includes some techy-terms like “Facebook,” “vlog,” “badware” and “blook” (a book serialized on a blog), it also adds the total triple letter-and-word score boon “qin,” which is apparently a “Chinese zither.” (“Zither” was probably there already, but keep it in mind for a particularly fortuitous Scrabble hand.)

“Grrl,” “innit,” “inbox” “nang,” “twiglet,” “waygu,” and even “punanny” made the updated list- they may sound iffy, but don’t fall afoul of the official Scrabble rules for which words are technically acceptable:

All words labeled as a part of speech (including those listed of foreign origin, and as archaic, obsolete, colloquial, slang, etc.) are permitted with the exception of the following: words always capitalized, abbreviations, prefixes and suffixes standing alone, words requiring a hyphen or an apostrophe.

Are you a Scrabble purist? Do you recognize new additions to the Scrabble lexicon or hassle your opponents when they get creative?
