San Francisco Giants Trade Rumors: Austin Jackson May Be Headed To The Giants

According to MLB Daily Dish , the San Francisco Giants may be looking to add another outfielder after acquiring Marlon Byrd from the Cincinnati Reds last week. Injuries have plagued the Giants’ outfield, causing them to look for more help in that area.

The San Francisco Giants are pursuing Seattle Mariners outfielder Austin Jackson. As reported by Jon Morosi of Fox Sports , Jackson has cleared revocable waivers, making him available for a trade.

Austin Jackson’s splits have been remarkably even, thus he could be a starting center fielder or valuable fourth outfielder. Along with the San Francisco Giants, the Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers would make a lot of sense for Jackson.

In addition to his decent hitting, Jackson is also a great outfielder. His defense has probably been his most valuable asset to the Mariners in his time with Seattle. This season he has.989 fielding percentage, making him an above average outfielder. Jackson’s defense alone will attract contending teams such as the San Francisco Giants.

The Seattle Mariners acquired Austin Jackson on deadline day last season as part of the three-team deal that saw David Price go to the Detroit Tigers. Jackson is making $7.7 million this season in arbitration before hitting the free agent market this offseason. MLB Trade Rumors reports that roughly $1.725 million remains on his contract .

The Mariners are 11 1/2 games behind the Houston Astros in the American League West. Since they are obviously out of playoff contention, I am sure they would like to get something for a veteran outfielder who will be leaving the team in just a couple of months.

The San Francisco Giants are currently 2 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. An extra outfielder for insurance could help the team make that final playoff push that they will need.

It is expected that Mariners general manager will move Austin Jackson before next week’s deadline. Jackson is expected to leave Seattle this offseason, so they should be happy to get a prospect or two in return. And without many other outfield options, Jackson could be a hot trade commodity.

Do you think the San Francisco Giants will make a transaction in order to acquire Dexter Fowler? If not, what other moves do you see the San Francisco Giants making during this month of August? Finally, do you think the Giants will make it to the postseason this year?
