Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Has Gorilla Glass 5, But What About The iPhone 7?

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be the very first smartphone that has Gorilla Glass 5. Android Central has the news.
“Just a few weeks after announcing the technology, Corning’s latest Gorilla Glass 5 will make its retail debut on the brand new Galaxy Note 7. Gorilla Glass 5 takes all of the strength and clarity of the previous version and adds a major boost to the strength of the glass when it comes to breaking on impact from drops.”
As Android Central notes, Corning claims that Gorilla Glass 5 can take drops from five feet off the ground onto hard surfaces and still have an 80 percent survival rate. This is a huge improvement over other glass covers, even Gorilla Glass 4.
“Internal research done by Corning showed that 85 percent of smartphone owners have dropped their phones at least once in the past year, and that two-thirds of those drops happening from waist height to shoulder height. So while previous versions of the Glass may have been strong, it wasn’t necessarily as durable if you dropped your phone while pulling it from your pocket or while taking a photo.”
This is good news for those who plan to buy the Galaxy Note 7. However, those who are planning to by the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus won’t be as lucky. According to BGR, the upcoming iPhone 7 will not have Gorilla Glass 5. The most exciting thing about a new leaked image of the upcoming iPhone is that there will be a Space Black version. The commenters after the article aren’t very impressed.
“Wow a black phone. How innovative. So exciting in the iPhone world. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz,” sarcastically belts out Take That.
“And yet the Note 7 has it. Hmmmm another example of apple not giving their customers the very best technology yet charging them outrageous costs. Pathetic,” says Chris Yakubovsky.
The consensus is that the Galaxy Note 7 is an outstanding smartphone, but it’s not innovative. That seems to be the same case with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which are expected to be announced on September 9. Yahoo Tech asked if Apple was shooting itself in the foot with their new “boring” iPhone.
“Some people have already made up their mind about the iPhone 7 – or whatever Apple ends up calling its 2016 iPhone series. It’s going to be ‘boring’ because it’ll have the same design as the iPhone 6s. It’s also going to be annoying because it’ll come without the standard 3.5mm audio jack.”
It is not even known if the iPhone screen resolution (1334 x 750 for regular iPhone, 1920 x 1080 for iPhone Plus) will improve. Both iPhones contain screens that were considered top-notch in 2013, but not so much anymore. Perhaps relatively poor sales of the iPhone are due to the brand being behind the times.
