Rudy Giuliani told Brian Williams on MSNBC that the “Black Lives Matter” movement is to blame for the shootings of several police officers in Dallas on Friday morning.

According to Media Matters, Giuliani said that the movement is “putting a target on police officers’ backs .”

“So the way we deal with it is to put it in proper perspective and be honest about it.”

“What happened last night was the worst attack on law enforcement since September 11.”

“People of Dallas should not feel guilty about it. It could have happened any place else in America.”

“Police officers in this country feel they have a target on their back and they have felt that way for over a year now.”

“I also recognize that 75 percent of the murder victims in New York City are black.”

“The police have to be present in the black community. Not necessarily because they want to be, not necessarily because you’d like to have them there, but because that’s where the murders are taking place.”

“From the time I became mayor and the time I left, murder went down from 1900 to 500. Then Mayor Bloomberg brought it down to 300. It’s now going up again. In that period of time, we saved, you know, thousands and thousands of mostly black lives. By putting white police officers in areas where they were at risk.”

“Now the New York City Police Department is a non-majority white police department. That’s by design. Started with Mayor Koch, Mayor Dinkins, me, and Mayor Bloomberg. We accomplished making it a multi-racial, multi-ethnic police department. It is not a majority white police department.”

“At the same token, not every police officer is a perfect person. Some are evil, some are bad. Most are good. And the vast majority are good.”

“And I think we have to be honest with each other. When you talk about Black Lives Matter, you know, the black young boy who was killed by another black young boy is just as dead as the black young boy killed by the police officer except what I just mentioned happens 9,10,12,50 times more than the other.”

“And I think that the reason there’s a target on police officer’s backs is because of groups like Black Lives Matter that make it seem like all police are against blacks. They are not. They are the ones saving black lives. Black Lives Matter is not saving any black lives. It’s the police officers that are doing it.”

The statements were met with mixed reactions on Twitter as Giuliani rocketed up on the trending status.

Somebody should tell Rudy Giuliani that he died 5 years ago.

“Rudy Giuliani is a representation of New York City to most of the world and it’s utterly embarrassing to say the very least.” — f0rty (@akaf0rtycaliber) July 8, 2016

This obsessed, blatantly biased individual> Rudy Giuliani- is not the solution. He & those alike are the problem. Keep him off @MSNBC please

Brian Williams allowing Rudy Giuliani to rant about how terrible black people are for wanting to not be killed is unacceptable white silence

Rudy Giuliani is a sad and simple man. He doesn’t realize that our tears can stream both black and blue. #BlackLivesMatters — Shellie Harwood (@ShellieHarwood) July 8, 2016
