Ronda Rousey Lashes Out At Haters On Instagram: They Lash Back

From the archive: published Mar 6, 2016, 10 years ago. Details may have changed since.

Ronda Rousey, as of this post, has not said anything publicly regarding the Holly Holm-Miesha Tate fight at UFC 196. In fact, UFC President Dana White said that he texted Rousey the results and found out she wasn’t even watching.

The low profile is in keeping with her reaction following her devastating loss to Holm in November, 2015, at UFC 193. However, she hasn’t been so tight-lipped with her haters, and there have been lots of them since she disappeared for five weeks and even refused to show up at her post-fight press conference.

Unlike Holm, who faced the music and answered all questions after getting dispatched by Tate in Round 5 of their co-main event on Saturday, Ronda Rousey avoided cameras and reporters following her defeat.

She even went so far as to tell Ellen DeGeneres that she contemplated suicide in the wake of her disastrous Round 2 knockout loss.

Her avoidance, as well as what many viewed to be a poor show of sportsmanship for refusing to touch gloves with Holm prior to the start of their fight, has invited criticism on social media, and on a recent Instagram post, she finally said enough.

“One of life’s simple truths,” she posted on a text meme, “If you post a rude, insulting comment on a complete stranger’s social media, you’re a sad, empty loser. You’re also an a**hole.”

The post garnered 186,000 likes, but it also attracted an onslaught of naysayers, who felt that Ronda Rousey was the real loser.

“Your [sic] also a loser if you smacktalk your opponent like there’s no tomorrow and then get knocked out so bad you’re out for 5 months,” wrote one commenter, hash-tagging the response “truth.”

“Whats [sic] funny is … when you talked s**t so much about your opponents and gave them the middle finger, yet you don’t like it when people do it to you,” wrote a second commenter, adding that Ronda Rousey was “obnoxious and getting what you had put out.”

A third commenter said that it was funny how Rousey could post such a meme about her haters when the commenter was “pretty sure all the s**t talk about [Floyd] Mayweather, [Justin] Bieber and Kim Kardashian was just like this post.”

“From the reports, you don’t know them (or at least you had never met them at the time) but you felt it necessary to attempt to bully and threaten them,” the commenter continued. “Come on now, don’t dish it if you can’t take it.”

There were literally dozens more comments along these lines, proving that people love to kick a celebrity while they’re down, but that, more than that, they like kicking a celebrity who kicks others while they’re down, while they’re down, if that makes any sense.

For Rousey’s part, she will have a chance to take her first step on the road to redemption when she faces Miesha Tate for a third time before the end of the year.

White has already confirmed that that is the next big match for his new UFC Bantamweight Champion, and if there is to be redemption for Rousey, it’s a good place to start.

She has beaten Miesha twice already — once in Strikeforce via a first-round submission and the second time in the UFC with a third-round submission after a lopsided judo session.

Tate appears to be custom-made for Rousey, but it’s hard to tell how much the Holm loss will affect her psychologically going into the next contest.

As things stand, Tate will be Rousey’s comeback fight, and it will be after about a one-year layoff, presuming the fight takes place in November.

But what do you think, readers? Will Ronda Rousey redeem her career against Tate, or will it take victories over both Tate and Holm? And do you think she has any business trash-talking her haters when she engaged in much of the same behaviors before her loss? Sound off in the comments section.
