Jackie Chan death hoax spreads virally on Twitter

Trending high on Twitter’s topics this morning is the heartfelt message of condolence that can only be conveyed via tweet, this time with actor Jackie Chan at the center of the mourning- “RIP Jackie Chan” is being tweeted and re-tweeted by many Twitter users.

However, 56-year-old Chan has not actually passed away. Although a fake news story states the actor suffered a heart attack, it appears the tale was spun out of whole cloth for the purposes of pure lulz. The post even has a clearly fake quote from President Obama, but it doesn’t seem to have triggered the “obviously false” alarm in many Twitter users with itchy tweet fingers:

Even United States President Barack Obama laid down a personal tribute to the martial artist saying: “Jackie Chan is a man who can talk through talent, he is a constant reminder of the strength of humanity. He will forever be in our hearts, a true inspiration who inspired many generations. First it’s Nate Dogg then it’s Jackie Chan .”

Chan, aside from not being dead, is set to appear in the film 1911 later this year.
