Ricky Gervais has announced that he is contemplating releasing a full album as his infamous character from The Office, David Brent.

Gervias made the revelation on Twitter, declaring that a hoard of record labels have made him ridiculously silly offers to write and record songs as the comedy creation.

David Brent was the main character in The Office, which Gervais created alongside Stephen Merchant, and despite being the manger of the most successful paper merchant in Slough, he was also an aspiring musician, whose band, Foregone Conclusion, once toured with a little known Scottish outfit called Texas.

The comedian wrote on the social networking site, “I can’t believe I’m getting ridiculous offers from major record companies all over the world for a David Brent album. Where were these people when I was trying to be a real popstar? And starving?”

Gervais originally attempted to dominate the musical landscape in the the early 1980s, when he formed a new wave pop act called, Seona Dancing. They were signed to London Records and then released two singles, “More To Lose” and “Bitter Heart.” They managed to score a hit with the former in the Philippines.

On Monday, Gervais released a musical tribute to the town where The Office was set entitled Slough, on YouTube. This is part of a series called, Learn Guitar With David Brent, which has so far received around 2million hits for Gervais’ YouTube channel.

Discussing the song, Gervais told BBC Radio 5, “I wrote Slough in New York, looking out across the greatest city in the world, but I channel Brent being homesick.”

Other songs in the series include Ooh La La and Ain’t No Trouble. You can view Gervais’ latest effort below. However, the comedian did warn, “If you’re tuning in to learn guitar, you’ll be sorely disappointed.”
