A Reddit pizza bombing delighted a sick toddler, who has been battling cancer in a Los Angeles children’s hospital, and just wanted some of the popular treat.
The Reddit pizza shower came after Lauren Hammersley, mom to 2-year-old Hazel, made a simple sign out of boredom for her ailing daughter Saturday.
Sitting with Hazel, who is fighting Stage 3 neuroblastoma, Lauren put a sign in the window reading:
“Send Pizza RM 4112.”
A post in Reddit’s r/funny subreddit followed, taken from outside by a passerby who saw the clever sign. A thread titled “ Photo taken outside Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. Smart kid ” soon had more than a thousand posts, and users started to post receipts for pizzas sent to the unknown resident of room 4112 in the hospital.
Lots of pizza. Despite not being in Reddit’s r/randomactsofpizza, the image was enough to spur do-gooding Redditors into action, and many began to participate. Lauren later wrote:
“Several other children and nurses came into the room, with music playing, and had themselves a wonderful Pizza Party. As of yesterday evening, there was more than 20 boxes delivered and more was coming! We had such a great time!”
However, little Hazel wasn’t able to eat all that pizza (we all know Reddit hugs too hard sometimes) and she also said:
Thank you to the compassionate Reddit users who saw this photo and responded with a pizza delivery… If you’re on Reddit and have seen the adorable photo below, please help Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and patient mom, spread the word: You’ve made a little girl very happy but NO MORE PIZZA IS NEEDED.
The family also said:
“On behalf of the Hammersley family, thank you for spreading the word and we hope the photo of Hazel with a successful pizza delivery received spreads just as far and fast as the original photo has.”
