Ramona Bachmann Can’t Carry Swiss To First Ever World Cup Win

Romona Bachmann might be one of the true up and coming talents in this year’s Women’s World Cup, but she still can’t single handedly win games. The interesting counterpoint is that Romona Bachmann came pretty close to almost winning Switzerland’s first ever World Cup game, as the Swiss lost to Japan by just a 1-0 score. There had been quite a bit of talk before this World Cup game that Romona Bachmann was going to be a sight to see, and it appears those rumblings were correct.

The question now becomes whether or not Romona Bachmann can help the team make some real noise in the tournament before the Swiss are ousted entirely. It should be pointed out that, despite the fact that Romona Bachmann’s team is a veritable World Cup rookie squad, they almost took down the defending champs in the very first game either team played. The young striker was especially good in the game’s 55th minute, according to Yahoo. This is when Romona Bachmann stole the ball, and then avoided a number of defenders as she made her way to Japan’s goal.

Unfortunately for Romona Bachmann and the rest of her team, the only thing she couldn’t pull off was the finish. The World Cup game between Japan and Switzerland was basically one that was played to a standstill, until Aya Miyama’s penalty kick in the 29th minute of the game. The game then went back to being a standstill, despite the valiant efforts of Romona Bachmann and the rest of her teammates. This World Cup is expected to be a little more wide open than the contest has been in the past. There are a number of teams that are said to have a legitimate chance at actually winning the Women’s World Cup title this year, and that could be why Switzerland looked so good on Monday.

When the World Cup field is as open as some say it is this year, a win here or there, or even a close loss, can mean the difference between advancing in a team’s pool and going home. Japan is still expected to be a tough beat. The United States is supposed to be a squad that will give everyone a run for their money after a disappointing finish at the last World Cup. Romona Bachmann and her pals are going to be a bit of a wildcard if their first game is any indication.
