Prince Charles and Camilla shared a rare public kiss during their official visit in Singapore. The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall reunited in the Lion City after arriving separately.
On Monday, the royal couple kicked off their 11-day trip to Southeast Asia and India, arriving in Singapore separately. Prince William traveled to the city on the RAF Voyager flight, while Camilla came from her private holiday, People reports.
The heir to the British throne and his wife were formally welcomed by some government and military officials, including the city-state’s first female president Halimah Yacob.
However, what caught the attention of many was Prince Charles and Camilla’s public kiss . The royal couple has been very private when it comes to showing off their affection towards each other, thus making the latest PDA rare.
In fact, it is only the third time for Prince Charles and Camilla to share a kiss in public. Apparently, the royal couple was first spotted kissing in public back in 2001 during the Somerset House reception. It was then followed by another smooch in 2005 at a polo match.
Prince Charles and Camilla’s relationship has always been bombarded with criticism. The two met in the 1970s during a polo match and were instantly drawn to each other.
Shortly after their meeting, they dated each other until 1971 before the prince enlisted in the Royal Navy. Two years later, Camilla tied the knot with Andrew Parker Bowles, who interestingly dated Prince Charles’ sister, Princess Anne.
As for Prince Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II met the late Princess Diana in 1977, while dating her older sister, Lady Sarah. Apparently, the prince became attracted to Diana, so much so that he ended his relationship with her sister and started courting her in 1980.
The following year, Prince Charles and Princess Diana tied the knot and welcomed Prince William and Prince Harry.
Unfortunately, the royal couple’s relationship took a different turn when Prince Charles and Camilla reconnected again. There were claims that the said “flirting” caused so much suffering to Princess Diana.
Following Princess Diana’s death in 1997, Prince Charles officially introduced Camilla to his sons and married her in 2005.
