Police Lamborghini: Cops In Dubai Get To Drive $550,000 Supercar

A police Lamborghini may sound like a getaway driver’s worst nightmare, but here’s the good news for any would-be robbers in Dubai: this patrol car is mostly for show.

The Dubai police force unveiled this stunning Lamborghini Aventador on Wednesday. Yes, it’s a genuine patrol car for cops. Yes, it will be used.

That said, this modified supercar won’t be tearing after criminals. With a value of $550,000, this beast will mostly be dispatched to tourist areas. This, explains deputy police director Gen. Khamis Matter al-Muzaina, will show “how classy Dubai is.”

Not that this police Lamborghini would be easily outpaced in a pursuit situation. With a blistering top speed of 217mph and the ability to hit 60mph in under three seconds, there isn’t much that can outrun an Aventador – even in wealthy Dubai.

The car, which comes painted in the green-and-white colors of the Dubai force, is part of a wider upgrade of Dubai patrol cars. Local press reports that the force is also adding a number of American muscle car Camaros.

Only 4,000 Aventadors were ever built, making this supercar the perfect statement for Dubai’s status-aware streets. Launched this year to celebrate Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary, the car has already sold out.

The police Lamborghini illicited a lot of cooing and gasping on Twitter, with plenty of people mentioning how they’d like to be carted back to the police station in such a ride:

I bet there is one almighty fight in the morning to get the keys to this car telegraph.co.uk/motoring/99864…

#OnlyInDubai I wouldn’t mind getting arrested in this lambo, totally worth the cruise. twitter.com/CjDolo/status/… — Sulaiman (@CjDolo) April 11, 2013
