Amy Winehouse is inadvertently proving that she doesn’t need to be alive to be scandalous. Pete Doherty , who was known in connection to Winehouse as her friend and often, at times, a bad influence for his own drug use, has dropped a pretty big bombshell. While most people know that throughout her duration as a popular jazz singer, Winehouse was married to Blake Fielder-Civil. It’s Doherty who’s claiming Blake wasn’t the only love in her life.
While speaking to the Daily Mail in a Parisian cafe, the musician tearfully choked his own truth out about his relationship with Amy Winehouse. Not only did he tell the newspaper that he was once “in love with her,” but he went on to talk about their secretive tryst:
“This is difficult for me to admit. But, yes, it’s true. Amy and I were lovers. I loved her then and, well, I still do today. But towards the end, as only lovers can, she became quite mean and cruel to me. She didn’t suffer fools, and believe me, she had a mean right hook.”
The Libertines singer also revealed that he has written a song for the late singer entitled, “Flags From The Old Regime,” which, according to Doherty, is a song unlike any other that he has written before because of its “very slow and melodic” nature.
Throughout the years, Winehouse and Doherty had always been particularly close, which was said to be a worrisome factor for Winehouse’s father Mitch. The only indication that Pete and Amy had anything romantic going on is a news bit dating from 2008, saying the pair was photographed kissing, but nothing ever really came of it.
