Paul Simon Plays ‘The Sound Of Silence’ at Ground Zero [Video]

Those with long memories will recall Paul Simon’s moving rendition of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ , played at a benefit concert just a few days after the September 11th attacks.

On Sunday, Simon returned to New York City’s ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks and proceeded to yank our heartstrings again, this time with a brooding, rather wrenching version of ‘The Sound of Silence.’

The singer-songwriter was originally supposed to sing ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water,’ though I think his new choice was every bit as fitting, especially as this song was written immediately after another tragedy that united Americans: the JFK assassination. Hankies at the ready, people:
