A 24-year-old paranormal influencer died almost a month after a car accident. Jiang Xiaorou was taken to Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital on July 15 and died due to her injuries on August 10, 2026. She suffered from traumatic brain injuries, hemorrhagic shock and organ failure. Popular in China with over 1 million followers on Douyin, she spent almost a month in a coma.

Her rideshare vehicle crashed, leading to her death; however, many people have suspected it was due to an anti-superstition challenge she did. Last August, she did a test in which she broke the statue of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy. She shared the video of destroying the statue and also claimed that she wanted to know how long she would live.

After she shared the video, a massive outrage broke out as Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, is a popular Buddhist deity. The video has resurfaced again after her death, adding more fuel to the conspiracy theories.

When she broke the statue, her audience labeled it as disrespectful and condemned her test of faith. Now people are connecting her tragic death to the test. She was a popular paranormal content creator who shared several videos on supernatural phenomena.

She used to go ghost hunting in ruins and abandoned homes. Besides, she tried to summon spirits regularly. Her last upload was on July 9, a few days before her car accident while she was traveling from Guangxi to Guangzhou.

Fans expressed their condolences on social media. An Instagram user wrote, “It was an accident. I don’t think it has anything to do with the statue.” Another one posted, “For those who believe in the Goddess of Mercy, she would never kill someone for smashing her statue. If she actually did that, then she wouldn’t be merciful at all.” One user took a jab, “Rest in peace? More like pieces.” “Mess around and find out, woe! Demons are not to be messed with,” another user wrote.

Meanwhile, her relatives urged the people to stop “spreading unverified information.” The statement read, “Here, her family and friends earnestly request everyone: respect the facts, refrain from spreading unverified information, do not forward content involving privacy, and please stop making excessive speculations about her and her family.”

It further read, “For those who wish to express their condolences, please let your concern be expressed as a quiet blessing, so that she may remain dignified and respectable in everyone’s memory. Thank you again for your support of Jiang Xiaorou. May she rest in peace, and please allow her friends the necessary privacy.”
