A Pakistani military attack is claimed to have targeted a journalist named Hamid Mir, who is known for being a critic of the nation’s military and intelligence service.

In a related report by The Inquisitr , it’s claimed that Pakistani terrorists attempted to disrupt the elections in India . But in more bizarre news, a Pakistani cannibal was arrested after eating a dead baby .

Mr. Mir was attacked and wounded by unknown gunmen on Saturday evening. Reports say the attackers were riding in a car and on two motorcycles. The bullets struck the man’s intestines, his pelvis, and a leg, but fortunately Mir survived an emergency surgery that saved his life. His current condition is listed as stable by the Aga Khan Hospital.

Although no one has claimed responsibility for the shooting, Hamid’s brother, Amir Mir, claims it was a Pakistani military attack. He also accused Lt. Gen. Zaheerul Islam, the chief of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence directorate (ISI), of orchestrating the attack on his brother, saying it was an assassination attempt.

The brother of Hamid Mir went onto to a TV show called Geo TV, which is a popular talk show in Pakistan hosted by Hamid. Amir the ISI leadership, claiming they were “eating up Pakistan like termites.” He also offered evidence for claims of the assassination attempt, saying that Hamid told Amir two weeks that his life was in danger. Just in case a Pakistani military attack attempted to kill him, Hamid had sent a video to the Committee to Protect Journalists.

Bob Dietz, the Committee to Protect Journalists’ Asia program coordinator, said it is important that journalists do their own investigation on whether or not a Pakistani military attack targeted Mir:

“Police must act swiftly and decisively in this and all cases that have been building up for years in Pakistan. And the country’s media must use their capabilities to pursue their own investigations, as well as pressure the government to take action.”

A spokesman for the Inter-Services Public Relations has condemned the gunmen but they also claim the shooting was not a Pakistani military attack:

“An independent inquiry must immediately be carried out to ascertain facts. However, raising allegations against ISI or the head of ISI without any basis is highly regrettable and misleading.”

What do you think of the accusations that a Pakistani military attack attempted to have the journalist assassinated?
