Donald Trump will now have a smartphone named after him. The Trump organisation recently announced its plans to launch the new Trump phone. Surprisingly, the 47th President isn’t the only US President to have a phone named after him.

Barack Obama, who served as the 44th President, had a similar phone named after him. Here are the main characteristics that set these two phones apart.

The new telecom venture that the Trump organisation is stepping into will be led by the President’s sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. The phone’s website describes the upcoming smartphone as the ‘T1 smartphone.’ The phone will reportedly cost $499.

It will also come with a phone service plan that will cost $47.45 per month. Itwould come with text and data plans, roadside assistance, unlimited talk, and a “Telehealth and Pharmacy Benefit” according to their official website.

The phone will be gold in color with an American flag engraved on the back. The website of the phone also features Trump’s famous slogan, “Make America Great Again.” This move seems strategic given that the target audience for the product is loyal Trump supporters.

The “Obama phone,” on the other hand, was a federally funded program introduced with low-income Americans in mind. The initiative was started by President Reagan’s administration in 1985. It progressed during President George W Bush’s administration.

It was ready to be launched when Barack Obama was in office, which is why it came to be known as the “Obama Phone.” The initiative’s aim was mainly to help low-income families communicate during emergencies and also to seek jobs.

The smartphone was free and came with a basic talk, text, and data plan. A $9.25/month subsidy was charged for mobile and internet services. The main characteristic that sets the ‘Obama phone’ and ‘Trump mobile’ apart is the audience they are catering to.

The Obama phone was made for low-income Americans who could not afford the mobile plans that leading carrier services provided. While Trump Mobile is a business venture aimed at maximizing profits, which qualifies as a premium service.

The Trump mobile will run on Android 15 software. The smartphone will have a 6.8-inch AMOLED screen, a 16-megapixel selfie camera, according to its official website. It will also possess 12 gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of internal storage. The main camera on the phone will be a 50-megapixel camera.

The Trump organization is also claiming that the phone will be built “in the United States of America.” Several experts have come forward to dispute the claim while noting that it is currently impossible to manufacture and build a whole phone in the U.S. at the moment.
