The Loch Ness monster gets all the press but Ogopogo could be the real thing. A man visiting Lake Okanagan in British Columbia caught the mythical creature, Ogopogo, on film.

Richard Huls, the man who filmed Ogopogo, said:

“It was not going with the waves. It was not a wave obviously, just a darker color. The size and the fact that they were not parallel with the waves made me think it had to be something else.”

Here’s the video of Ogopogo.

So is this Ogopogo sighting proof that Canada has its own Loch Ness monster? Or is this just another hoax?

MSNBC reports that the Ogopogo traces its roots back to a Canadian Indian mythical beast called N’ha-a-itk. The Indians used to sacrifice animals to N’Ha-a-itk so that they could have save passage over Lake Okanagan.

But there has never actually been any proof of a sea monster in Lake Okanagan, despite the fact that the lake has been searched many times. In 1991, a TV program financed a high-tech exploration of Lake Okanagan. But despite the submarine and underwater gadgets, no evidence of an Ogopogo was found.

Still, several people claim that they have seen Ogopogo in Lake Okanagan. Here’s a video of a few Ogopogo sightings. Most of these sightings turned out to be logs, not mythical beasts.

So, did Richard Huls really spot Ogopogo? Probably not. MSNBC reports that Lake Okanagan has tens of thousands of logs floating just under its surface. So yeah, this Ogopogo sighting is probably just another log.
